Watch your beach!
7th September 2012

On 15th and 16th September its time for the annual "Beachwatch" event run by U.K. charity the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

"Beachwatch" is a very successful beach cleaning campaign that has taken place around the country every September for many years now. It relies on local volunteers and organisations to set up an event on their favourite beach, which then gets advertised to the public so they can come and help with the tidy up too!

All of the rubbish that is collected from every beach is recorded on a data sheet, which is then compiled and sent back to the MCS for them to write the summary report - detailing the variety of possible sources of the pollution and which beaches are worst affected.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary has organised beach cleans in the area since 2004 and once again this year we will be taking part. We have two events over the weekend that we would love to see you at if you would like to help out and do your part for conservation:

Saturday 15th September, 11am, Gunwalloe Fishing Cove, meeting at the Halzephron beach access point.

Sunday 16th September, 11am, Gwithian, Hayle, meeting at the Red River end of the beach.

All volunteers who come to our events will be given free entry to the Sanctuary for their efforts as well, and if you'd like to find out more, you can give us a ring on 01326 221361.
