Chaff - Cape Fur Seal
Staff at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary were devastated by the sudden death of resident fur seal Chaff on 17th October 2013.

Chaff, who was born at the Sanctuary in 1999 and has been one of the most popular residents ever since, appeared fit and healthy during that morning´s feed and ate hungrily.

However, a few hours later at the afternoon feed, staff noticed Chaff was listless and had no appetite and within a short space of time he had tragically passed away.

Chaff All the staff were shocked both by the loss of a much loved resident and by the manner of Chaff´s sudden and rapid decline, and a post mortem will be carried out to try and discover the cause of his death.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary knows that many of you will share their grief at this tragic loss and they will bring you further news as and when they learn any more.
Chaff was born at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in May 1999. At the time, his family were staying temporarily at the Sanctuary.

Chaff came back with his new mate Mika in 2006, sadly Mika passed away in 2008, but Andy, Chaff´s dad, then came to keep him company.

Chaff was a lovable and placid character, he was also very smart and could always figure out new ways of getting extra fish from the Animal Care Team to feed his large appetite!

Chaff will be dearly missed by everyone. RIP Chaff.
