BOSS - Rescued on 7th December 2006

On Thursday 7th of December 2006, the Sanctuary received a call from a member of the public about a seal that they had picked up from Bossiney near Boscatle. The gentlemen had found the seal on the beach looking very weak, and due to the eight feet waves and the beach soon to be covered in water, they decided to take the pup off the beach. We advised the gentlemen as they had the seal in their van and he could bring it straight to the Sanctuary.
The pup arrived early evening and we transferred it to a cage and took it straight to the hospital. The pup was given a clinical assessment and was found to be underweight at 11 kilos and post moult at around 4 weeks of age. This pup had wounds to all flippers and puncture wounds to the underside of the belly. The pup is being treated with a course of antibiotics, vitamins and iron. This pup is a little boy and because he was rescued from Bossiney, the gentleman called him "Boss" on the drive to the Sanctuary, and so it has kind of stuck, and now has been named Boss.
