BAMBI - Rescued on 27th December 2006

Bambi in the isolation penOn Wednesday 27th of December 2006 the Seal Sanctuary received a call from a member of the public about a seal at Hennick Beach. Tamara who was working over Christmas loaded up the cage and rescue kit and headed out. When she arrived at the beach, Tamara found the pup and carried out an assessment on the beach. The pup looked very thin and had a temperature, with some wounds to the rear flippers.
It was decided that the pup should come back into the Sanctuary, when the seal arrived at Gweek, it was put into isolation pen 1 for a full clinical assessment. The pup was malnourished and weighed 11.5 kilos. It also had quite a few puncture wounds to it´s rear flippers which were cleaned and treated. The pup also has an ulcer to it's right eye. The pup is being treated with antibiotics and eye drops, this pup is 6 weeks old and a little girl we have called her Bambi.Bambi in the isolation pen

Update: 24th April 2007 - On Friday 20th of April 2007 at 7am Bambi along with Ariel, Nemo, Spongebob, Tigger and Belle were loaded up into the trailer for their release back into the wild, and we headed out to Gwithian. We arrived after a very bumpy journey (seals getting excited about the sea air) to find the water flat and calm. As soon as the trailer door was down, all six were off, with Ariel leading the way, two stayed around for about 10 minutes before finally disappearing around the coast. All in the trailer
