André - Californian Sea Lion

André, a Californian Sea Lion, used to be housed at Chessington, but they were looking to re-home him, and got in contact with the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary made preparation for his arrival and on 5th May 2009, André arrived at Gweek.

Noito and Diego, the Patagonian Sea Lions, were very intrigued to see a new sea lion entering their enclosure. André quickly moved passed them and into the water for his first dive into the Cornish water, he was quickly followed by the other two.

Luckily all went well and these three are the best of friends. Diego and André are at the moment competing for the title of noisiest resident at the Sanctuary, and in the lead is André.

Andre On 11th April 2014 a new pool playmate for André arrived, the Animal Care Team have been looking for a pool partner for André and when the Seal Sanctuary heard about a Californian Sea Lion called Sunny at Wuppertal Zoo in Germany looking for a new home, the staff at Gweek were thrilled and couldn´t wait to get him onsite.

He would make the perfect pool playmate for André. After a few weeks, once Sunny had settled into his new home, André was moved in with Sunny.  Don´t worry André is not far away from his friends Noito and Diego, they are only two enclosures away from each other.
