[Rescued Seals]

Here are some of the common and grey seal pups rescued in the 2004/2005 season

FROSTY - Rescued 6th December 2004
Frosty, a rescued pupFrosty is a female grey seal pup. She was found on Hunstanton Beach on the 6th of December 2004, she was about 3 weeks old. She was underweight weighing just 13kg and had several wounds on her flippers and body, these are now healing well. She is eating fish for herself and starting to put some weight on. She will stay here at the sanctuary until she has put on enough weight to be released.
Update 16th January 2005
Frosty is doing well and putting on weight steadily, she eats everything that is thrown in her pen before it even hits the bottom.
Update - 30th May 2005
Frosty was moved outside on the 28th of March 2005, she loves being in the outside pool and
tries to steal fish from the other seals when she can.
Update 12th September 2005
Frosty along with Lightning and Icicle were all released on 8th of September 2005 and all swam off into the wild happily.
SELMA - Released 27th November 2004
Selma, a rescued pupSelma is a female common seal. She is about 1½ years old. She was found down in Dover on the 3rd of August 2004. Selma is an ex rehab seal who originally came to the Sanctuary on the 27th of June 2003. When she was found in Dover it was discovered she had a large wound to the roof of her mouth. At the moment we are not 100% sure what caused this wound but we believe it may have been a gun shot. This wound has almost healed up now and hopefully it won´t be long until Selma can be returned to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
On 24th September 2004 the wound in Selma´s mouth had healed up enough for her to be moved outside, she weighed 39.2kg. She has settled in to life in the pool and loves to swim around on her back. She has also made friends with Bilbo and the two are often seen playing together in the afternoons.
FLEUR DELACOUR - Rescued 23rd September 2004
Fleur, a rescued pupFleur is a female common seal pup. She was found on old Hunstanton beach on the 23rd of September 2004. She was covered in bite wounds and had worms. The wounds have started to heal and she is now free of worms so she will soon be moving into the outside pool with all the other seals.
Update - 21st November 2004
Fleur Delacour : - Fleur is now completely recovered from her worms and all her bite wounds have healed up. She was moved into the outside pool on the 2nd of November 2004. She has settled in well and loves to play with the other pups in the pool. She is now putting on the last bit of weight before she is ready to be released.
DOBBY - Rescued 14th August 2004
Dobby, a rescued pupDobby is a male common seal. He was found on Heacham beach on the 14th of August 2004. He was about 5 weeks old when he arrived at the sanctuary. He was skinny and suffering from worms, he has now been treated for the worms and is happily eating fish from hand. He will stay here at the sanctuary until he has put on enough weight and learnt all the skills he will need for his return to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
By 14th of September 2004 Dobby was feeding himself without any help from us. His worms are now completely gone and he was moved outside on the 25th of September 2004 weighing 16.2kg. He is quite a character and loves to make a mess by tearing his fish to pieces when he´s not that hungry, but that isn’t very often.
Update - 27th March 2005
Dobby was returned to the wild on the 26th of March 2005. Dobby along with Hermione, Hagrid, Cho Chang and Bow were taken by boat and released onto a sandbank in the Wash close to a seal colony.
HAGRID - Rescued 14th August 2004
Hagrid, a rescued pupHagrid is a male common seal. He was found on Holme beach on the 14th of August 2004. He was about 5 weeks old, he had a very heavy worm infestation, was skinny and had some bite wound to his body. He has now been treated for his worms and is happily eating for himself from the water of his pen. He will stay here at the sanctuary until he has put on enough weight and learnt all the skills he will need for his return to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
Hagrid is now free of worms and was moved outside on the 25th of September 2004 weighing 22.8kg. He is a very greedy seal and tries to get as many fish as he can at feeding times. He is putting on plenty of weight and is learning all the skills needed for his return to the wild.
Update - 27th March 2005
Hagrid was returned to the wild on the 26th of March 2005. Hagrid along with Hermione, Cho Chang, Dobby and Bow were taken by boat and released onto a sandbank in the Wash close to a seal colony.
HERMIONE - Rescued 15th July 2004
Hermione, a rescued pupHermione is a female common seal. She was found on Holme beach on the 15th of July 2004. She was 2 weeks old when she was found and had been abandoned by her mother, she was also skinny and had some bite wounds around her mouth. On the 22nd of July 2004 she was weaned onto fish and by the 17th of August 2004 was happily feeding from hand. She will stay here at the sanctuary until she has put on enough weight and learnt all the skills she will need for her return to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
By 17th of September 2004 Hermione was eating for herself from the water in her pen and on the 24th of September 2004 she was moved outside weighing 21.7kg. She really loves her food and is almost as fat as Cho Chang now, she is very good at competing against the other seals in the pool.
Update - 27th March 2005
Hermione was returned to the wild on the 26th of March 2005. Hermione along with Hagrid, Cho Chang, Dobby and Bow were taken by boat and released onto a sandbank in the Wash close to a seal colony.
BOW - Rescued 10th July 2004
Bow, a rescued pupBow is a female common seal pup. She was found on Heacham beach on the 10th of July 2004. When she was found she was about 5 days old. She had been abandoned by her mother and was quite skinny but she soon started to put weight on with her feeds every four hours. On the 22nd of July 2004 we started to wean her on to fish and off the special milk formula and by the 12th August 2004 she was happily eating fish from hand. She is still putting weight on and starting to look a lot healthier than when she first arrived. She will stay here at the sanctuary until she has put on enough weight and learnt all the skills she will need for her return to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
By the 14th of September 2004 Bow was eating for herself from the water of her pen without any help from us and on the 25th of September 2004 she was moved outside weighing 17.8kg. She loves being outside and playing with the other pups in the pool. She is putting on more weight and learning how to compete against all the other seals outside.
Update - 27th March 2005
Bow was returned to the wild on the 26th of March 2005. Bow along with Hermione, Hagrid, Dobby and Cho Chang were taken by boat and released onto a sandbank in the Wash close to a seal colony.

CHO CHANG - Rescued 10th July 2004
Cho Chang, a rescued pupCho is a female common seal. She was found on Holme beach on the 10th of July 2004. When she was found she was about 2 weeks old. She had been abandoned by her mother, she was skinny and had a few bite wounds. She quickly started to put weight on. On the 22nd of July 2004 we started to wean her onto fish and by the 14th of August 2004 she was happily eating from hand, she very quickly learnt how to eat out of the water and by the 17th August 2004 was eating out of the water in her pen without any help from us. She will stay here at the sanctuary until she has put on enough weight and learnt all the skills she will need for her return to the wild.
Update - 21st November 2004
On the 16th of September 2004 Cho Chang was moved outside weighing 24kg. She is easily the fattest pup outside (apart from Amber) and is always the first pup to charge after the food we throw in. She continues to put on weight and is learning all the skills needed to survive in the wild.
Update - 27th March 2005
Cho Chang was returned to the wild on the 26th of March 2005. Cho Chang along with Hermione, Hagrid, Dobby and Bow were taken by boat and released onto a sandbank in the Wash close to a seal colony.
