|Walk for Whales with the National Seal Sanctuary!|
WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, and Seal Sanctuary, are asking people to join them in protecting whales by Walking for Whales on Sunday 12th July 2009.
A five mile sponsored walk will start and end at the Sanctuary on the 12th July 2009, and local people are needed to get their walking shoes on and join in the fun family day, with free entry to the Sanctuary for all those taking part!
WDCS and Sea Life/Sanctuaries have joined forces to campaign to stop commercial whaling. A staggering 30,000 whales have been killed since the international ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986, and now there is pressure for that ban to be lifted, which will allow even more whales to be slaughtered. All the money raised from the sponsored walk will go towards campaigning to keep the ban in place and bring an end to the killing of whales.
Everyone of any age can take part in the walk, which will begin at 10.30am from the Sanctuary in Gweek. To register for the event and receive your free fundraising pack, log on to www.walkforwhales.org, email
There are some great prizes to be won for those raising the most sponsorship. Everyone who takes part will receive free entry to the Sanctuary. Those raising more than £50 will receive a free WDCS whale adoption. If you raise over £80 you will get free annual passes to a Sea Life centre/Sanctuary of your choice, and if you raise over £100 you will get both the whale adoption and free annual passes to the Sea Life centre/Sanctuaries. The person who raises the most sponsorship will get an amazing family pass to all Merlin attractions for a year.
Peter Lewis, Community and Events Manager for WDCS said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to have a great day out and help us stop the needless and cruel whale hunts at the same time. Please sign up and start collecting your sponsorship now, and enjoy the walk on the day plus the free admission to the Seal Sanctuary."
