The panel, formed last year to help the Sanctuary develop and promote a range of marine conservation activities, will cut the ribbon on the walkthrough underwater tunnel.

As they step across its threshold they will effectively step back 100 million years to the oceans of the Cretaceous era.

"From the vantage of our balloon-filled tunnel they will see not only a variety of sharks, shoaling fish and our green sea turtle...but a full size replica skeleton of a prehistoric pliosaur called a Kronosauras," said general manager Nigel Croasdale.

"Their VIP assignment will be followed up with project work back in the classroom, when they will build their own model pliosaur and a wall display featuring a range of ocean dinosaurs," he added.

"Their finished work will be featured in our education room, which is used by around 10,000 schoolchildren every year on educational visits."
