The National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is inviting all children and adults to come and see some of their favourite cartoon characters over the February half term holidays.
Some of the most popular characters such as Dory and Nemo from ‘Finding Nemo’ and Baloo and Mowgli from ‘The Jungle Book’ can be found at the Sanctuary, but these characters are not fish or bears- but seals.
This year the Seal Sanctuary has chosen cartoon names for all their rescued seals.
‘Each year we have to choose a subject and at least fifty names for our rescued pups, over the last few years, we have chosen rivers, plants and last year beers. This 2006/2007 rescue season we have chosen cartoon names’ said Animal Care Assistant Claire McGowan.
So far this season, the Sanctuary has rescues 39 seals, and is now busier then it was in the 2005/2006 rescue season.
‘Some of the other names we have used for pups this year include Spongebob, Roo, Narla and Simba. All are now in different stages of rehabilitation in our nursery and convalescent pools, with some of the pups hopefully ready to go in the next few weeks’ added Claire.
All this year’s rescued pups can be found on the Seal Sanctuary's website www.sealsanctuary.co.uk, but can be seen in the flesh at the Sanctuary from 10am every day except Christmas Day.
