Albino Dogfish is all-white

A true Albino Dogfish caught by two local fishermen is being welcomed into her new home at the Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary after being declared "all-white".

On Friday 2nd May 2008, a routine fishing trip for Willie and David McDougall turned out to land them one of their strangest catches yet.

After coming across the Albino Dogfish and calling the SEA LIFE Sanctuary for advice, David McDougall said "It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen in 30 years of fishing".

Members of the Animal Care Team at the Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary met David and Willie at the port in Tabert to transfer their temporary shipmate to her new home.

Back at the centre, she was immediately put into quarantine in order to make sure she was healthy. After a short stint in there, she was moved to their Dogfish Nursery.

When she is old enough, she will be in tank with other Dogfish and Smooth Hounds where she will undoubtedly feel right at home.

Aquarist Gareth Harriman said "We were amazed when we first saw her as she is completely white with bright red eyes and I've never come across an Albino Dogfish like her before".

"As she is only about a year old, everyone at the centre is looking forward to watching her grow up and adapt to her new home" he continued.
