Bonnethead Shark
Bonnetheads (Sphyrna tiburo) are members of the Hammerhead Shark family. They are found in the Gulf of Mexico and off the Brazilian coast. Easily recognised by a broad, smooth, spade-like head. They can reach approximately 1 metre in length. It is a timid and harmless shark which is often found swimming in small groups of up to 15 individuals. Bonnetheads and other members of the Hammerhead family have a broad and flattened head to increase their sense of smell and electroreception.
